Filmmaking duo Anna Kameneva and Kristina Kretova are heading to the Cannes Film Festival to present the fifth film from their international documentary project Women and Roads: The Way to Yourself. Their newest chapter, shot in Azerbaijan, will be screened at the Palais des Festivals on May 18 with the support of the film’s partners and heroines — Narmina Hasanova and Narmin Alakbarova. This screening marks a major step for the growing project, which will also be presented at the Marché du Film in Cannes. With five completed films, a sixth in production, and more planned, Women and Roads has become a platform for meaningful storytelling centered on female journeys across diverse regions. While the project is united by a common concept — women traveling, reflecting, and engaging in deep dialogue with other women — each film explores a distinct theme. From spiritual searching to motherhood, from cultural legacy to independence, the narratives remain fresh and unexpected. The Azerbaijan chapter focuses on the power of female friendship, seen through the stories of contemporary Azerbaijani women and their connection to the land’s deep heritage — including archaeological discoveries linking the region to the Amazons. On May 19, the project will also be featured at a special event hosted by the Female Film Club and Herflix, in collaboration with Forbes, further highlighting the creative force of women in film. Produced by A&K Production — the independent company founded by Anna Kameneva and Kristina Kretova — Women and Roads is a growing documentary project shaped by meaningful encounters, powerful visuals, and cross-cultural insight. With each film, the duo brings a fresh lens to women’s experiences around the world. As they travel from their creative base in Dubai to the global stage at Cannes, Anna and Kristina continue building a body of work that unites storytelling, heritage, and emotional depth.
